Victory of Pragya Thakur: People's mandate or illiteracy?

Pragya Thakur v/s Atishi Marlena: Why the comparison is completely irrelevant?

Comparing the win and defeat of candidates of two different constituencies is like pissing into the wind and that's what people are doing nowadays while comparing the victory of Pragya Thakur (who stood from Bhopal Constituency) with the defeat of Atishi Marlena (who stood from East Delhi constituency). Though it's worthy to criticize the victory of Pragya as she should not have been given the party ticket in the first place but comparing it with the defeat of Atishi is completely irrelevant.

The reason that every ideology has something positive to give so why to constrain yourself in chains of a single mindset, makes me neutral while accepting the changing notions. Though I am neither a rightist nor a leftist, because I don't believe in restricting our thinking to a particular ideology, comparing win and defeat of candidates of two different constituencies not only reflects your shallow critical ability but also your desperateness to criticize the whole BJP party and right wing ideology.

The problem with Indian politics is that people are focusing too much on criticizing the government rather than realizing what they have done to the nation. When the current government has a clear mandate, there are a few people with their shattered arguments to criticize it.

It's definitely okay to have a dissenting voice and speak out your notions confidently but there is a thin line between dissenting and babbling. It's not only with current government but it's pervasive to see that people tend to do so when they witness a strong government. The reason is not that these strong governments have any personal issues with people and their ideology or they are creating public life miserable. No there is nothing like that but when people witness a strong government they have a tendency to criticize it more strongly and to highlight more and more of its negativity while sidelining the positive achievements and arrangements of that party ~ whether it's Congress or BJP.

Why BJP is in power today with an absolute majority is because of a weak opposition and likelihood of citizens to have a strong and stable government and that's what people have cherished. They don't like to see unstable policies, weak decisions, and falling governments or a hung parliament. BJP has been able to provide people certainty and security to some extent. People who are criticizing BJP should definitely give an alternative to the Narendra Modi government and I am sure they will fail to give a better alternative to it. No single party or pre-coalitions has been able to achieve remarkable seats. Congress bagged mere 52 seats and AAP party managed to bag only one seat. So the lack of options or alternatives geared up the opportunities for the BJP to win. Another reason is the illiteracy among voters who either voted on the basis of religion (who consider BJP as Hindu party and Congress as a Muslim party, despite having a secular country) and charismatic personality of Mr. Narendra Modi rather than voting for the candidates of their constituency. If people would have voted for better candidates rather than voting for parties, the situation would have been completely different. Another mindset people had, while voting, was that let's vote for a party who is going to win rather than voting for a party who is going to lose because voting for a losing party will lead to wastage of their vote.

Pragya Thakur from BJP managed to win the Bhopal seat in 2019 Lok Sabha elections because voters didn't vote for her but rather for the BJP party or Narendra Modi. If she would have been from any other political party, she might have not won. People who voted in Bhopal (or in other constituencies of India) didn't even know the standing candidates for their constituency. So, eventually people who are voted for her are not actually responsible for this tragic win because of the three reasons- first they didn't know who is standing from their constituency; second they didn't who Pragya Thakur or Sadhvi is; and third they were devoid of the fact that she is facing criminal charges. Hence, the need is not to criticize government or Indian democracy, the need is to increase the level of political literacy and awareness.

Apart from this, those who are criticizing the current Indian political scenario as a totalitarian, monarchical or fascist state rather than a democratic one are forgetting the fact that they are able to raise their voices with such vicious claims which would not have been possible if India and it's government would not have been upholding the democratic principles.

The hypocrisy of BJP haters is that though they disagree with the victory of Pragya Thakur, who is accused of criminal charges, on the other hand, are supporting Atishi who herself openly asked people to vote even for goons to defeat BJP. By supporting a candidate with this ideology, people are supporting the politics of hate and hooliganism. Isn't then the democracy threatened? If goons, other than Pragya, come to power, wouldn't it harm the country? Won't then the recent saying "Oppressed have chosen their oppressor" would be more relevant?
